The actual meaning behind my tattoo is so much more than just song lyrics. When I first heard them, my own meaning of these words came to me. It’s honestly hard to explain, but in short-
“You are what you love
Not who loves you.”
It has a lot to do with self love, and not letting other people control my life. The “Not who loves you” part has nothing to do with the people who care for me shaping my life. Instead, it has everything to do with the people who don’t. I am not what people who want to bring me down say I am. I am not shaped by the opinions of people who are cold hearted. So I am not in need of their love. Instead I am what I love. I am my music, my dance, my theater. I love my mother and my friends, and they are a part of me. So I am what I love. I am shaped by my own choices and decisions, and the good things that come of it. I am not shaped by the hate and the depression that other’s may try and force upon me. Or of the love of other people who don’t care at all.
You know. If that makes any sense.
Again, it’s hard to put into words, but I did my best.
